Cannot remove "save this search" from next_prev

Cannot remove save this search from next_prev. When you are on a

listing, the next/previous has an icon for "save this search" However,

if you don't want people to be able to login that is very annoying.

because if the try to save the search they get the login page. So then

they try to make an account. Then they will get "I'm sorry, but you are

not allowed to make an account on this system. If you need an account,

please email the administrator." This is just plain rude to people.

If you turn off the login feature then these items should disappear. At

the least, there should be a method to make them disappear and it looks

like the necessary files are encrypted besides which its never a good

thing to change core files unless you have an override system. So there

needs to be a method to fix this in the interest of visitor friendliness

for those of us that don't want visitors to be able to login. I

wouldn't mind the login feature but overall I find that the way it

functions is pretty sucky. Sorry but it is and I have a lot of reasons

for saying that having experienced it out of the box in my pro version.

At any rate, how can a person get rid of all front end references to saving searches or logging in?

The Listing Detail Page Next_Prev widget has a template now in Open-Realty 3.2.5, which you can edit to remove the icon.

OR version makes no difference here. Simply remove whatever you don't want from your custom 'next_prev.html' or any other template file. It does not get any easier than that.

That's why OR has a template system, so you can change all this stuff to your liking.

Wish it was that easy. Thought it was:

{nextprev_show_save_search_block}

<a href="index.php?action=save_search{nextprev_guidestring_no_action}" >{lang_save_this_search}</a>

{/nextprev_show_save_search_block}

but removing that had no effect. What wold a person need to remove in order to remove the save search icon and feature?

If you removed that block, and it's still showing-up, you are not editing the correct file. You need to edit the version of next_prev.html you copied to your custom template folder.

Sorry, but I must beg to differ. I've removed that block from next_prev.html. next_prev.html is the file as stored in my template folder. My template folder is city_lights_mod (I am using the city lights template but have copied its files to a custom folder as stated above and have oriented OR via admin to that folder so my template files are not overwritten during an upgrade) However, if you look at a listing: http://www.richlandchamberslakerealestate.com/listing-11746723%252B-%252B188%252B%252Bfarm%252Bmarket%252B637%252B%252Bmildred-1384.html you will see that indeed the save search is there. Actually, this problem was discussed on an old thread on the old forum and the same problem was discussed. It was found then that the only way to fix it was to edit the listing_inc.php which is never a good thing to edit a core file as we know. However, that was for an old version of OR anyways as now that file is encrypted.

Also, if this post (see: http://support.open-realty.org/archive/index.php/t-16057.html) is any indication of the state of things with respect to this particular item the next-prev function on a listing page it was discussed 5 years ago in 2007 and was mentioned as "written into the core files" and "being slated to be templated so to have more control over it in a upcoming next version or two". Apparently that has not been done because I can search the language file for specific language the bar shows such as "save this search" and find said language, but I cannot find any reference to calls to those language items in any template files anywhere which indicates they are written into core files that are encrypted. Kind of said because this is a function one should have control over since it deals with usability of the site and its not good usability to simply delete it altogether since a visitor having the ability to easily move forward or backwards thru a listing is a good thing but if you have user accounts turned off its a bad thing to have the "save this search function."

I think you are inadvertently making this harder than it needs to be, and are jumping to inaccurate conclusions about how OR v3 works..

Information in the old discontinued support forums (that are that old) apply to OR v2 and not v3. OR v3 has many significant differences, and you can be assured that this specific item is in fact templated in v3 whereas all of it was not in v2.

You simply need to copy the version of 'next_prev.html' from the /template/default/ folder to your custom template folder and edit that copy. Remove the entire {nextprev_show_save_search_block} including the <span> tags that it is contained within.

OR v2 templates such as "city_lights" are not compatible with OR v3, so I would also suggest that you delete all the files from your 'city_lights_mod' template folder except for 'main.html' and its CSS file and then copy only the template files from /template/default/ that you are actually going to modify.

A big confusion and misunderstanding at this thread...

The NEXT/PREV at Listing detail page IS NOT templated (as O-R v.3.2.4).

There is no way to edit that!

The ONLY solution is to DISABLE the NEXT/PREV at Listing detail page (Site Config, Listings tab). Not more not less, as simple as that.An alternative, is to use CSS to hide that element:

.next_prev_listing li:nth-child(4) {

display:none;

}

Not all browsers versions support it (IE6, IE7, IE8).

You are correct, 'next_prev.html' is specifically for the search results page. If the OP is referring to the listing detail page, that is not templated.

Is there a reason why it's not templated?

well there you go. This entire discussion has been with respect to the listing detail page. See the OP: "When you are on a listing, the next/previous has an icon for "save this search" However, if you don't want people to be able to login that is very annoying. because if the try to save the search they get the login page. So then they try to make an account. Then they will get "I'm sorry, but you are not allowed to make an account on this system. If you need an account,

please email the administrator."

That is where "save this search" becomes more prevalent to a visitor and where if you have turned off the ability for visitors to create a login it also becomes more problematic and thus should be an editable feature.

I also subsequently provided a link to a listing page to clarify my post and as well to previous posts on the old forum whereby this very subject was discussed and it was mentioned it would be brought into future modifications of the program but that was 5+ years ago and here we are again.

I'm just saying, it is a feature that SHOULD be available to change.

Hi,

Hi,

You can easily hide the save search link on the listing page next/prev button with CSS..

.next_prev_listing li:nth-child(4) {display:none;}

** I see Eduardo already gave this solution..

Yes that works and makes a workaround to the problem. Still believe it is something that should be more easily controlled if a perosn is to turn off the ability to log in then it should go away. I like this program but there are so many details like this that requires you to be a css or html expert when it would be nicer and friendlier otherwise.
