cloud hosting adequate for OR licensing?

Hi,

I would like to move my OR installations to cloud hosting. Concerning the licensing (static IP...) I have received the following response from the host. Does anyone know if this would be adequate? Thank you in advance!

Can you please be more specific with the "static IP" requirement - I can confirm the A record for the domain is one and the website will ping from the same IP address, however our Cloud is load balanced platform and internally it may use different routes.

As long as the IP address and folder where you install OR do not change constantly, cloud hosting works great.

After you move/install OR, reissue your license and verify OR is working, go back to your customer area at Transparent-Tech, and click on your license again from the products/services list, and it will show you the IP and directory that is being reported by the cloud server OR is running on after you moved it. This is the stuff that must not change.

Thank you very much for your reply! The host did move the installations to the cloud but all pages were blank and they said I would have to update thousands of paths (so I guess reinstall OR). They have now moved them back to another cPanel server, that seemed the easiest solution.

I will now get the licenses reissued.

Did you not follow the instructions in the docs for movng a site?

http://docs.transparent-tech.com/open-realty/latest/movinganexistingsite.html

Step #8 and what follows are pretty critical.

Hm, no I didn't. Thanks for pointing this out! The host did a backup and moved everything to the new server. I thought that should be ok, I didn't realise that it was different with the cloud.

It all seems to work again now, I guess I can start my weekend feeling lucky....

There's nothing special about the "cloud" anyone moving an OR site or any other DB driven CMS has to follow the software's move instructions or it's not going to work.

The "cloud" is just a buzzword. All it means in plain English is: "Someone else's computer".
