how to change the main H1 header for individual pages

The main header for every page is H1 and by default it is the same for every page.

How can I change this so that I can give relevant individual headings for each page?

Edit the template file(s) in question and change the H1 tags to whatever you wish.

See the TEMPLATE DOCUMENTATION section of the OR Docs:

I looked at the documentation before posting, and couldn't find the answer. If you are saying it is there, can you be very specific as to where it is please?

If you can be specific regarding which page exactly you are trying to edit, yes.

Why does it matter which page?? I am asking how to change the default for any page.

If you want me to link to a page on my site I can do so, but that really shouldn't be necessary should it?

Hi Rob

Lets say the template is lazuli

then you would need to ajust the css file in the template folder

style_main.css

you will see around line 35

h1, h2, h3, h4, h5{margin:0;padding:0;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-weight:bold;text-align:left;}

h1{line-height:30px;font-size:20px;}

h2{line-height:28px;font-size:18px;}

h3{line-height:26px;font-size:16px;}

h4{line-height:24px;font-size:14px;}

h5{line-height:18px;font-size:12px;}

If the template was html5 then you will need to look in style.css and search for h1

Now if your h1 is getting messed up on the content then you will need to creat a new css for that around {content} .

Hope that helps

Thank you Al, but wouldn't that just change it for all the pages? What I want to be able to do is give each one its own heading. I have the same problem with titles - I have over 100 pages all with the same title, i.e. the default.

The template I am using is OR_plain. To give on example, page:

http://www.altinkumpropertyforsale.com/information-about-altinkum.html

neither the title not the H1 reflect the actual content, and what I want to do is make each page individual. How do I edit the source of that page (and all the others) please?

I assume on your site you are talking about the h1 that is in your header that says "Altinkum Property For Sale". In order to change that for every wyswyg page, you would need a custom main.html file for each page. However, I would not recommend that, you want a consistent look across your website, and changing your header on every page would not provide that. Why do you just not edit your main.html and make that text not appear inside an h1 tag if your consern is the search engines ranking being penalized by the h1 tag's text being the same on every page.

As for the page titles, you set the page titles in the WYSIWYG page editor, along with the meta keywords and descriptions. If you site is not using those, then your main.html file must have a hardcoded title in it, instead of using the appropriate template tags...

Thanks very much for your reply, you have solved my problems:) Somewhere along the way I had replaced the template tag with the actual title of my home page. I apologize for wasting everyone's time with what was an error on my part, but am so grateful for you pointing it out or I would never had realized it.

I understand what you are saying about the H1 tag, but am not sure how to actually remove it. I did try but then I lost the text altogether from the header, so I put it back for now.

Currently it is:

<h1 title="Altinkum Property For Sale ">Altinkum Property For Sale</h1>

Could you please show me how I need to change it?

Sorry, I should have added so that it appears the same on the page as it does now (same size text and colour), but is no longer H1.

Thank you.
